October 23, 2010 - TCF Bank Stadium - Minneapolis, Minn. - Attendance (48,479)

Series Notes

  • Minnesota now owns a record of 4-8 in its brief history versus Penn State. The Nittany Lions began Big Ten play in 1993, the initial year the teams began competing for the Governors' Victory Bell.
  • The Gophers are 2-4 all-time when the Nittany Lions visit Minneapolis, including victories in two of the past four contests. Minnesota defeated PSU, 25-16, on Oct. 7, 2000, and won 16-7 on Oct. 2, 2004, before losing 28-27 in overtime on Oct. 7, 2006.

Team Notes

  • The Gophers amassed 433 yards of total offense against Penn State, marking the second-highest total against the Nittany Lions' defense this season. Penn State allowed 437 yards in a loss to Illinois on October 9. It marked the first time that Minnesota reached 400-plus yards against a Big Ten opponent since having 505 total yards in the 42-34 win against Michigan State on October 31, 2009.
  • Minnesota is 4-8 all-time at TCF Bank Stadium.
  • The Gophers are now 14-11-0 all-time against teams from the state of Pennsylvania - 4-8 versus PSU, 9-3 versus Pittsburgh, and 1-0 versus Temple.
  • PSU was the sixth of nine 2009 Bowl participants the Gophers will face this season.
  • Minnesota has four 100-plus yard games by its backs this season, tying for the most in a season since the 2007 Gophers put together four individual rushing efforts that eclipsed the century mark.

Individual Notes

  • Senior quarterback Adam Weber passed for 299 yards versus PSU, giving him 10,199 for his career as he became just the fifth QB in Big Ten Conference history to throw for more than 10,000 yards. Weber trails only Purdue's Drew Brees (11,792) and Curtis Painter (11,163), Northwestern's Brett Basanez (10,580), and Iowa's Chuck Long (10,461) for all-time passing yardage.
  • Weber made his 46th consecutive start, the longest such streak in the nation for a signal-caller.
  • Weber threw three touchdown passes, giving him 69 for his career, which is tops all-time at Minnesota and ranks eighth all-time among Big Ten quarterbacks.
  • Junior wide receiver Da'Jon McKnight's 29-yard TD catch in the first quarter gave him scoring catches in five of the past six games for the Gophers. McKnight also has at least one reception in 13 consecutive games.
  • McKnight finished the game with a career-high three TD receptions, marking the second time in the past three weeks that he had multiple scoring catches in a game. He had a pair of TDs in Minnesota's loss at Wisconsin on Oct. 9.
  • McKnight became the first Minnesota receiver with three TDs in a game since Ernie Wheelwright had three touchdowns versus Northwestern on Oct. 13, 2007.
  • McKnight now has nine touchdown receptions in the past seven games, and that total ties former Gophers Eric Deceker (2007), Ernie Wheelwright (2007), Logan Payne (2006), Ron Johnson (2001), and Luke Leverson (1998) for third on Minnesota's single-season list.
  • McKnight finished with eight catches for 103 yards, with the receptions total establishing a career high. He had 123 receiving yards in last week's loss at Purdue, and is the first Minnesota receiver with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games since Eric Decker had four consecutive 100-plus yard receiving games from the final game of 2008 through the third game of 2009.
  • Junior running back DeLeon Eskridge ran the ball 26 times for 111 yards, marking his second 100-yard rushing effort this season and the fourth of his career. Eskridge ran for 119 yards against Northwestern on Oct. 2.
  • Junior tight end Eric Lair had three catches for 37 yards, giving him multiple receptions in each of the Gophers' eight games this season.
  • Junior tight end Tiree Eure made his first career catch for the Gophers.
  • Junior defensive tackle Brandon Kirksey tied a career-high with two tackles for losses totaling XX yards. Kirksey previously had two TFLs against USC on Sept. 18, and two stops behind the line versus California on Sept. 19, 2009.
  • Sophomore linebacker Mike Rallis led the team with seven tackles (five solo), and had 1.5 tackles for loss.
  • Senior fullback Jon Hoese carried one time for six yards and a first down, and has had 13 of his 16 carries this season result in a fresh set of down or six points.
  • Senior cornerback Ryan Collado intercepted his second career pass, and the first since picking off a pass at Illinois on Oct. 11, 2008.
  • Freshman wide receiver Victor Keise recorded his first career catch.
