Junior libero Jessica Granquist was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week according to an announcement by the Big Ten on Monday, Oct. 4.

It marked the second time that Granquist has claimed the honors this year. Minnesota has had someone receive weekly honors in five of the six weeks of the 2010 season. The Golden Gophers have claimed seven weekly honors this season, which is the most of any Big Ten team. Granquist joins Paula Gentil, Malama Peniata and Christine Tan as one of four Golden Gophers to claim Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Granquist averaged 7.14 dps and helped the defense limit Minnesota's opposition to a .175 hitting percentage. She collected a career-best 38 digs in a four-set victory over Purdue. Granquist's 38 digs in the match, tied for the sixth-highest total in school history and were the most by a Minnesota player since Tan had the same total on Sept. 20, 2008 against North Carolina. Granquist also had 12 digs against Indiana during the three-set victory on Oct. 3.

Entering the week, Granquist leads the Big Ten in overall digs per set (5.07 dps) and in conference play at 5.80 dps.
