Minnesota Ranked No. 16 in AVCA Poll

The Minnesota volleyball team was ranked No. 16 in this week's AVCA Top 25 according to an announcement on Monday, Oct. 4. The Gophers received 600 points in the top 25 poll this week.
Minnesota went 2-0 on the week with a pair of home victories over Purdue (3-1) and Indiana (3-0). With the No. 16 ranking, the Golden Gophers have now been ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for 39 straight weeks dating back to the final poll in 2007.
Minnesota set the school-record with 40 straight weeks in the top 25 from Oct. 20, 2003 to Sept. 4, 2006. The Golden Gophers are joined by four Big Ten teams in the poll. Penn State is ranked No. 4, Illinois is No. 6, Michigan is No. 18 and Northwestern is No. 24. Ohio State (32) and Purdue (3) also received votes in the preseason poll.
Minnesota will be back in action when it travels to Iowa City to face Iowa on Wednesday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m. That match can be seen live on the Big Ten Network. The Gophers will also travel to Evanston to face No. 25 Northwestern on Sunday, Oct. 10 at 1 p.m. That match can be seen on a tape-delayed basis on Oct. 10 at 6 p.m. Both matches can be heard in the Gold Zone and followed on a live blog at gophersports.com.
