Doubles Teams Play Well At Wildcat Invitational

The women's tennis team completed play today at the Wildcat Invitational at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill. The Gophers are joined by competitors from host Northwestern, Akron, DePaul, Illinois-Chicago, Iowa, LSU, Michigan State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wisconsin in Oct. 8-10 event.

Eight Gophers are competing in the event, two each in the four separate singles flights. Mariana Spilca and Elianna Kantar lost their opening-round singles matches in Flight A. Alexa Palen posted a win in her first-round match of Flight B, while Peta Forsyth fell in straight sets. Magdalena Wiecha and Emilie Renault were both 0-1 in Flight C singles. Natallia Pintusava posted a three-set win in Flight D singles, while Alessandra Ferrazzi lost her only singles match on Friday.

Pintusava and Wiecha were 2-0 in doubles and will play in the Flight C final tomorrow at 9 a.m. against Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Christina Harazin of Iowa. Ferrazzi and Palen advanced to the Flight D final by winning two matches and will square off against a duo from Oklahoma or Northwestern tomorrow. The semifinal between Oklahoma and Northwestern was suspended because of darkness with Northwestern leading 5-4. Forsyth and Kantar went 1-1 in doubles in Flight A, as did Renault and Spilca in Flight B.,
