Women's Tennis Wins Two Titles At Wildcat Invitational

The women's tennis team won the top two doubles titles on Saturday at the Wildcat Invitational at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center in Evanston, Ill.

Alessandra Ferrazzi and Alexa Palen won the Flight D championship with a 3-0 record. They beat teams from South Carolina and DePaul to advance to the final and then topped Alice Radu and Tara Eckel of Oklahoma 9-8 (4) for the title.

Natallia Pintusava and Magdalen Wiecha advanced to the Flight C final with wins over DePaul and LSU. They then won the championship 8-5 against Big Ten foes Lynne Poggensee-Wei and Christina Harazin of Iowa.

"As long as we've been playing this tournament, this is our team's best doubles performance," coach Tyler Thomson said. "Each of our four teams played with good energy and communication, and played all-around solid doubles."

The Wildcat Invitational features players from Minnesota, host Northwestern, Akron, DePaul, Illinois-Chicago, Iowa, LSU, Michigan State, Oklahoma, South Carolina and Wisconsin. The three-day event concludes tomorrow with singles competition.
