Soccer Earns NSCAA Academic Award

An exciting week for the Minnesota women's soccer team got even better on Thursday as the Golden Gophers earned a 2010 NSCAA College Team Academic Award. Minnesota led the Big Ten and finished among the nation's top 20 programs with a 3.48 team grade point average.
"This achievement is huge for our team. Our team is highly competitive on the field and in the classroom, and they take a lot of pride in their academic achievements," Minnesota head coach Mikki Denney Wright said. "It is an awesome accomplishment, and I am very proud all their hard work and of their commitment to excellence in all areas. This team has crushed every standard at Minnesota soccer both on the field and in the classroom, and they continue to do so."
As a team, Minnesota listed the highest GPA in the Big Ten and finished 19th overall in the country among Division I programs. The academic award is the fourth-consecutive NSCAA honor for the Gophers soccer program dating back to 2007. A 3.0 team GPA is required in order to earn an NSCAA College Team Academic Award. 15 members of the Gophers squad met or exceeded a 3.0 grade point average this season.
Minnesota returns to action this Saturday when the Gophers host Georgetown in the NCAA Round of 16. Game time is slated for 1 p.m. at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in St. Paul.
