Blog: Gophers Hope to Replicate Success Against Spartans

The Minnesota football team will continue its streak of the playing against top teams in the Big Ten as the Gophers travel to East Lansing to face No. 15/16 Michigan State on Saturday at 11 a.m. CT.

The Spartans will be looking to bounce back after their 37-6 loss at Iowa last week. That loss move the Spartans into a first-place tie with Ohio State in the Big Ten.

The Gophers will head to Michigan State coming off a 52-10 loss against the Buckeyes, and will be looking to show that they can put last week's game behind them and play competitively on the road.

"You have to have a short memory in this game whether you win or lose," sophomore linebacker Mike Rallis said. "We have to put that game [against Ohio State] behind us and work hard but all of our energy and focus into Michigan State."

The Gophers will be looking to build off the recent success they have had against the Spartans in recent years as Minnesota has won six of the last eight meetings including a 42-34 win at TCF Bank Stadium last year.

The Spartans have been giving up an average of 210.9 yards per game through the air this season, which is sixth in the conference. However, quarterback Adam Weber and the Gopher offense will be looking to move the ball like they did against the Spartans last season when Weber threw for 416 yards and five touchdowns.

"It's going to be difficult to repeat that performance," Weber said. "It's going to be a similar defense. They [Michigan State] are not changing much up...if we can go back and look the tape from last year and learn a little bit from what we did, and try bring some of that magic into this game, then we're going to be all right."
