Minnesota Defeats Wisconsin in Three Sets

The 19th-ranked Minnesota volleyball team (21-8, 11-6) defeated Wisconsin (15-12, 4-13) in three sets by scores of 25-18, 25-11, 25-22 at the Wisconsin Fieldhouse on Friday, Nov. 19.

Minnesota was led by senior Lauren Gibbemeyer (St. Paul, Minn.) who had 11 kills, hit .435 (11-1-23) and had a match-high four blocks. Ashley Wittman (Shakopee, Minn.) had 10 kills, seven digs and three blocks. Tabi Love (Dauphin, Manitoba) also had nine kills and four digs.

Junior Jessica Granquist (Blaine, Minn.) had a team-high 14 digs and tied a career-high with five assists, while sophomore setter Mia Tabberson (Muncie, Ind.) finished with 29 assists and a career-best 10 digs. Steffi Sooter (Santa Cruz, Calif.) finished with nine digs.

Minnesota limited the Badgers to a .000 (19-19-75) in the first two sets. In the third set the score was tied at 21, before the Gophers scored four of the final five points to close out the set and the match.

On the night, Minnesota outhit Wisconsin .312 (39-9-96) to .066 (34-26-122) and had eight blocks to one. The Gophers also had 56 digs to 44 for the Badgers.

Wisconsin was led by Dominique Thompson who had nine kills on the night. Elise Walch also had eight kills, while Allison Wack had five kills (5-5-24) and six digs. Kim Kuzma finished with a match-high 17 digs.

Minnesota will head to Champaign where it will face No. 9 Illinois on Saturday, Nov. 20 at 4:30 p.m. That match can be seen live on the Big Ten Network.
