Minnesota Ranked No. 12 in AVCA Poll

The Minnesota volleyball team moved up three spots to No. 12 in this week's AVCA Top 25 according to an announcement on Monday, Nov. 29. The Gophers received 808 points in the top 25 poll this week.

With the No. 12 ranking, the Gophers have now been ranked in the AVCA Top 25 for 47 straight weeks dating back to the final poll in 2007. That extends Minnesota's record-breaking streak of consecutive weeks in the top 25.

Minnesota went 2-0 on the week with home wins over Ohio State and No. 7 Penn State. The victory over the Nittany Lions was the Gophers first since 2004, and the first at the Sports Pavilion since 2002. Minnesota finished the Big Ten season tied for second place with Illinois at 14-6. Penn State ended up winning with a 16-4 record. The Gophers ended up as one of eight Big Ten teams in the NCAA Tournament field.

The Big Ten had five teams in this week's poll. Joining Minnesota, was Penn State at No. 8, Illinois at No. 14, Michigan at No. 23 and Purdue at No. 25. Ohio State (13) and Northwestern (11) are also receiving votes in the poll.

Minnesota will host the first and second rounds of the NCAA Tournament this week. The Gophers will face North Dakota State on Friday, Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. Creighton and Iowa State will face off in the other first round match at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 3. The winners of the two matches will meet in the second round on Saturday, Dec. 4 at 6 p.m.
