Minnesota Travels to Indiana and Purdue

Minnesota will return to the road as it will face Indiana on Friday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. (CT) and Purdue on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. (CT). The Gophers’ match with the Hoosiers can be seen live on BigTenNetwork.com.

Minnesota enters the week ranked No. 19, has a 17-7 overall record and is in fourth place at 7-5. Tabi Love has a team-high 3.78 kps and 1.80 dps, while freshman Ashley Wittman has 3.37 kps, 3.17 dps and 0.68 blps. Senior Lauren Gibbemeyer has 2.90 kps, is hitting .359 and has 1.31 blps. Gibbemeyer is only four blocks from tying the career school-record. She has 532 career blocks.

Junior libero Jessica Granquist has had a match-high (for both teams) in digs in 10 of the 12 Gophers’ Big Ten matches. Granquist also had match-highs in digs in 14 of the last 17 matches, and in 17 of the Gophers’ matches on the year. She has collected 30 digs or more in four matches and 20 or more in eight contests this season. Granquist leads the Big Ten with 10 matches in which she has had a match-high in digs in conference play.

Junior Stephanie Nucci started and played the majority of the last four matches at setter for the Golden Gophers against No. 24 Northwestern, Iowa, No. 6 Illinois and Wisconsin. Nucci has averaged 10.47 aps, 2.40 dps and 0.67 blps in those four matches. She has started in 14 of the Gophers’ 24 matches this year, and in five of the 12 Big Ten matches.

The Hoosiers enter the week with a 17-7 overall record and are in eighth place in Big Ten at 5-7. Last week, Indiana lost at No. 9 Penn State in three sets and at Ohio State in four sets. The Hoosiers started out 0-4 in Big Ten play, but have gone 5-3 since. Indiana is also 4-1 in conference home matches. The Hoosiers are led by Jordan Haverly who has 3.45 kps and 1.95 dps, while Ashley Benson has 3.41 kps and 1.35 blps. Benson missed the first match against Minnesota on Oct. 3 with concussion-like symptoms. Caitlin Cox leads the team with 3.94 dps. Mary Chadoin (7.96 aps and 1.32 dps) and Whitney Granado (5.68 aps and 1.91 dps) share the setting duties. Indiana is coached by Sherry Dunbar who is 66-56 in her fourth season with the program. Minnesota leads the all-time series 45-14, including a three-set victory at the Sports Pavilion on Oct. 3.

The Boilermakers enter the week tied for fifth at 6-6 in the Big Ten and are 15-8 overall. Last week, Purdue won in five sets at Ohio State and lost at No. 9 Penn State in four sets. The Boilermakers are 3-1 at home in Big Ten play and 3-5 in road conference games. Purdue is led by Ariel Turner who has 3.89 kps, 2.12 dps and 0.72 blps. Tiffany Fisher has a team-high 86 blocks, has 2.47 kps and 1.00 blps. Carly Cramer has a team-high 4.12 dps, while Jaclyn Hart leads the team with 10.32 aps, 1.62 dps and 1.32 kps. Purdue is coached by Dave Shondell who is 179-109 in his ninth year with the program. Minnesota leads the all-time series 42-28, including a four-set victory at the Sports Pavilion on Oct. 1. The Gophers have won 10 straight matches in the series.
