Day One Complete at Kitty Harrison Invitational

Joining the Gophers in the event is host North Carolina, Texas A&M, Duke, Virginia, Pepperdine, Maryland, Georgia Tech, Princeton, Vanderbilt, North Carolina-Greensboro and William & Mary.
Each team will play four rounds of singles and four rounds of doubles. On Friday, Minnesota played singles and doubles matches against Virginia and singles matches against Maryland. Freshman Natallia Pintusava was the lone Gopher to win both singles matches. She beat Maryland's Jordan Sanford 7-5, 7-5 and then beat Virginia's Hana Tomljanovic 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (12).
Magdalena Wiecha, Alexa Palen, Peta Forsyth won their matches against Maryland. Wiecha and Forsyth dropped their matches to Virginia, while Palen did not compete against the Cavaliers. Forsyth played Lindsey Hardenbergh, who is ranked No. 45. Emilie Renault and Mariana Spilca also fell to their Virginia counterparts. Senior Alessandra Ferrazzi lost both of her matches on the day.
The Gophers went 1-3 in doubles against Virginia. Minnesota's pairing of Forsyth and Renault won 8-5 against Katie Gater and Clare Spooner.
Minnesota returns to the courts tomorrow to face William & Mary in doubles at 10 a.m. and North Carolina-Greensboro in doubles at 11:30 a.m.
