SERIES NOTES
- Minnesota and Michigan State met for the 43rd time today.
- It was the first meeting between the two teams at Spartan Stadium since 2006.
- With the loss, Minnesota’s now trails in the all-time series 17-26 and has a 6-14 record in East Lansing.
- The Gophers had won 3 in a row and 4 of their last 5 encounters with the Spartans entering today’s game.
- Minnesota defeated MSU in a 42-34 thriller last year at TCF Bank Stadium. The Gophers defeated the MSU, 31-18, the last time they visited Spartan Stadium in 2006.
TEAM NOTES
- Minnesota fell to 1-9 overall, 0-6 Big Ten, and 1-3 on the road this season with today’s loss.
- The Gophers last started a season 1-9 during the 2007 campaign.
- Michigan State is the eighth opponent of the season that bowl game last year through 10 games.
- Today was the Gophers’ first road game under interim head coach Jeff Horton.
- Minnesota’s 2-point conversion during the fourth quarter was the Gophers’ second of the season. Minnesota has now converted 2 of 3 2-point conversions on the year.
INDIVIDUAL NOTES
- Quarterback Adam Weber moved into fourth place on the Big Ten’s career-passing yards chart with his 11-yard completion to tight end Eric Lair during Minnesota’s fourth quarter touchdown drive. The pass moved Weber ahead of Iowa's Chuck Long (10,461).
- MarQuis Gray saw action at quarterback for the first time since the Northern Illinois game, when he took just one snap. He led the Gohpers’ offense for portions of both halves in today’s game.
- Da’Jon McKnight extended his catch streak 15 games today.
- Eric Lair has now at least on reception in every game this season.
- Lair had his had first rushing attempt since the Wisconsin game in 2009, gaining nine yards to convert a fake punt late in the third quarter.
- DeLeon Eskridge hauled in his first career 2-point conversion.
- Linebacker Mike Rallis collected his team-leading third interception of the season to set up Minnesota’s first points of the day.
- Linebacker Gary Tinsley’s first-quarter sack was the second of his career and his first since getting one at Iowa in the 2009 regular season finale.
- Tight end Curtis Hughes saw action on both sides of the ball, slotting at defensive tackle on the goal line during the second quarter. It was his first career action on defense.
- Johnny Johnson (SS) and Austin Hahn (DT) made their first career starts for the Gopher defense.
