Minnesota Prepares to Face Cal in NCAA Regionals

The Minnesota volleyball team arrived in Seattle on Wednesday night and had its first practice on Thursday afternoon in preparation for its match against Cal on Friday, Dec. 10 at 7 p.m. (CT).
Following the practice, senior middle blocker Lauren Gibbemeyer, junior Jessica Granquist and Minnesota Head Coach Mike Hebert met with the media in their pre-tournament press conference. The Gophers talked about the chemistry the team has forged since getting healthy from the injuries that have occured during the season, their thoughts on a very good Cal team and several other topics.
Prior to the Gophers' press conference, Cal talked had their press conference. Gophersports.com captured both Minnesota and Cal's press conferences.
Following practice, the Minnesota volleyball team went to the Fish Market and grabbed a seafood dinner. Minnesota will have its final walkthrough tomorrow from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Hec Edmundson Pavilion.
The Gophers enter the match on a nine-match winning streak and have a 26-8 overall record. Cal is 27-3 and won its only match at the Hec Edmundson Pavilion in four sets when it defeated Washington in four sets on Nov. 12. Nebraska and Washington will play each other at approximately 9 p.m. (CT). Both matches can be seen live on NCAAsports.com as part of a live streaming package. The winners will play each other on Saturday, Dec. 11 at 10:30 p.m. (CT) in a match that can be seen live on ESPNU.
Minnesota is one of six Big Ten teams left in the NCAA Tournament. Other Big Ten action on the day includes top seeded Florida against No. 16 Purdue at Gainesville, Fla. on Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. (CT), followed by No. 8 Illinois against No. 9
Texas. Fourth-seeded Penn State will also host Oklahoma on Dec. 10 at 5 p.m. (CT). Indiana faces No. 6 USC at 3 p.m. (CT) on Dec. 10 in Dayton, Ohio, while Ohio State will face No. 3 Stanford at 5 p.m.
