Our pre-NCAA Tournament Gopher Sports Spotlight talks with volleyball senior middle blocker Lauren Gibbemeyer about her career coming to a close, the upcoming NCAA Tournament and of course, the Penn State match.

A St. Paul native, Gibbemeyer will finish her career among the Gophers’ all-time greats. Lauren is the Minnesota record holder in career blocks, among the best in Golden Gopher history in kills and hitting percentage, a three-time All-Big Ten First Teamer and a multiple All-America honoree.

Last Saturday night, Lauren tallied a career-best 25 kills, along with eight blocks, to lead Minnesota to a memorable win over defending national champion Penn State. Lauren was later honored as the National Player of the Week for her performance.

After going 9-1 to end the season, Minnesota was awarded the No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament and will play host to first and second round matches this weekend. The Gophers face North Dakota State in the first round on Friday evening.
