Buoyed by strong performances from its fall sports teams, the University of Minnesota stands in 20th place in the most recent Division I Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup Standings released by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) on Dec. 23rd.

The Gophers earned points in both men’s and women’s cross country as well as women’s soccer and women’s volleyball.

Soccer and volleyball both reached the Sweet 16 of their respective tournaments and earned 64 points apiece for their nine place overall finishes. The cross country programs chipped in with 20 point each to give Minnesota a total of 168 points.

That figure ranks fifth in the Big Ten behind Ohio State (294), Penn State (275), Indiana (197), and Michigan (188).

North Carolina sits atop the current standings with 355 points after earning five top-20 finishes during the fall.

Last year, Minnesota posted its 16th top-30 finish in the 17-year history of the Director’s Cup by placing 18th.
