Minnesota Tames Tigers 6-1

Leading the entire afternoon, Minnesota handed the Missouri Tigers a sound defeat with a 6-1 victory at the Baseline Tennis Center.
After the Gophers claimed the doubles point, Tijana Koprivica gave Minnesota a solid win behind a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Jamie Mera of Missouri in the No. 1 singles. Magdalena Wiecha’s 6-2, 6-3 victory, combined with a No 2. singles victory by Alessandra Ferrazzi (6-2, 6-4) over Mallory Weber put the match out of reach for Missouri.
Alexa Palen continued Minnesota’s dominant performance with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Missouri’s Kaitlyn Ritchie. Immediately following, Doron Muravnik finished off Andrea Lewis in two sets (6-4, 6-3) to leave Minnesota with the 6-0 lead.
Minnesota had no problems handling the Tiger effort all day, winning all but one match in two sets. The final match of the day pitted the Gophers Jackie Sperling against Missouri’s Maria Christensen. Falling behind early, losing the first set 2-6, Sperling battled back in the second to win 6-3. In the final set tiebreaker, Christensen prevailed with a 10-8 victory.
With a quick break, Minnesota will be back in action against Wisconsin-Milwaukee at 6pm this evening at the Baseline Tennis Center.
