University of Minnesota head football coach Tim Brewster has announced the signing of 25 student-athletes who will be joining the Golden Gopher football program.
Twenty members of Minnesota's 2010 recruiting class are current high school seniors, four join the Gophers from the junior college ranks and one comes to Minnesota from a prep school. Three members of this year's signing class are already enrolled and attending classes.
"I think this is a very solid class from top to bottom," Brewster said. "I think we filled some specific needs with this class, particularly in the offensive line, the secondary and the tailback position. I'm really pleased with how we addressed our specific needs with this class. It's really going to help our football team from an overall depth standpoint."
Brewster said a real emphasis was put on finding quality student-athletes who possess leadership capabilities and are proven winners.
"The biggest thing about this class is, we were looking for captains," Brewster said. "We were looking for leaders. We were looking for smart players. We were looking for kids who came from programs that have won football games. I think we've really achieved that goal. The large majority of this class are kids who have been captains on their high school team, very smart players and winners, kids who have come from winning programs. These are kids who are used to winning and I think that's really important."
A total of 12 states are represented in the 2010 Gopher class. Brewster said his staff deserves the credit for casting a wide net and bringing top players from all over the country to the U.
"Our staff deserves a great deal of credit," Brewster said. "The guys on this coaching staff are tireless in the way they approach recruiting."
The 2010 Minnesota recruiting class is also well-balanced. Thirteen of the signees are projected to play on the offensive side of the ball, while 12 are projected for the defense.
A roster of all 25 signees, along with full biographical information on each of the new Gophers are listed on the Signing Day Central page.
