Tucson, Ariz. - In their final game at the Arizona Wildcat Invite today (Mar. 14) the Minnesota softball team was faced with their stiffest test yet as they tangled with host Arizona, the No. 2 ranked team in the country.

Arizona came into the weekend sporting just one loss (to another top-10 team) and went on to show their worth today. The 22-1 Wildcats hung a 12-0 decision on the Gophers, scoring in three of the four innings where they came to the plate.

In the first, Arizona got to Minnesota (10-17) starter Alissa Koch (Racine, Wis.) for four runs on three hits, blowing the game open from the get-go.

The Wildcats went on to add two more runs in the second and six scores in the fourth, before the game was called with the 12-0 final after the top of the fifth inning. Arizona did their scoring off of 12 hits, with the scoreless third as the only inning where they were held without a hit.

Koch suffered the loss allowing all 12 runs earned and walking eight, while striking out just four. Minnesota was held to just one hit in the game, coming off the bat of team leader Heidi Carls (Villard, Minn.).

Staciec Chambers led the way for the Wildcats with a 3-for-4 day at the plate with one run scored and two RBI.

The Gophers get little rest in this stretch run before the Big Ten season in a few weeks, as they take the field again in Tuesday Mar. 16 for two games at New Mexico State. After that, its off to Boise, Idaho for five games at the Spring Hill Suites Invitational, Mar. 19-21.
