NCAA Field in Minneapolis Includes No. 1 Seed

No. 1 seed Nebraska tops the field of four teams set to compete in the NCAA Women’s Basketball Championships’ First and Second Rounds at Williams Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Nebraska will face No. 16 seed Northern Iowa at 6:06 p.m. CT (ESPN2) on Sunday, March 21. The other match-up features No. 8-seed UCLA versus No. 9-seed North Carolina State in a contest that will tip off 30 minutes (ESPN2/ESPNU) after the opener. The second round game is set for 8:36 p.m. on Tuesday, March 23.

Minnesota is playing host to NCAA Tournament games in Williams Arena for the fourth time and first since 2007. Nebraska is the very first No. 1 seed to play on the historic raised floor of The Barn.

The Huskers captured the Big 12 Conference regular-season title and ran off 30 consecutive victories before losing to Texas A&M in the Big 12 Tournament. Nebraska, 30-1 overall, is joined by Connecticut, Stanford and Tennessee as No. 1 seeds for the 2010 NCAA Championships.

Northern Iowa earned the automatic qualifying berth from the Missouri Valley Conference after capturing the MVC Tournament crown. The Panthers own a 17-15 record on the season.

UCLA makes its second trip to Minneapolis for NCAA Tournament play; the first in 2004. The Bruins are 24-8 on the season and entered an at-large NCAA berth.

N.C. State also earned an at-large berth into the “Big Dance.” The Wolfpack sport a 20-13 record.
