Gophers Drop 4-3 Decision at Long Beach State

A season of close matches continued for the Minnesota women's tennis team as the Gophers dropped a 4-3 decision on Wednesday at Long Beach State.
It was the Gophers' seventh 4-3 match in 14 contests this season and their second straight one-point loss on their spring break trip to California. The 55th-ranked Gophers dropped to 8-6 overall, while Long Beach State won its fifth straight to improve to 11-2.
For the second straight match, Minnesota claimed the doubles point, but dropped four of the six singles matches. Long Beach State won the first doubles match with a win at No. 1, but Tijana Koprivica and Jackie Sperling responded with an 8-1 win at No. 2 and Mariana Spilca and Doron Muravnik clinched the point with an 8-6 victory at No.3.
Minnesota had singles victories by Alessandra Ferrazzi at No. 1 with a 6-3, 7-6 win over Jaklin Alawi and Magdalena Wiecha at No. 6 with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Sarah Cantlay. Long Beach State had wins from Deborah Armstrong at No. 3 over Muravnik 6-4, 6-1, Rachel Manasse at No. 4 over Alexa Palen 6-2, 6-2 and Anna Jaczmionka at No. 5 over Jackie Sperling 6-1, 6-2.
The 49ers' Anais Dallara posted the clinching victory with a 7-6, 6-3 win over Koprivica at No. 2 singles.
The match was Minnesota's final non-conference match of the season as the Gophers conclude the year with nine straight Big Ten contests, beginning March 26 at home against Michigan State at 6 p.m.
