The University of Minnesota's Sept. 2 season-opening football game at Middle Tennessee State will kick off at 6:30 p.m. CT and will air on ESPNU. ESPN announced the ESPNU broadcast and kickoff time Wednesday.
The matchup between the Golden Gophers and Blue Raiders will be the first-ever meeting between the schools on the gridiron. Middle Tennessee State University is located in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The Blue Raiders will host Minnesota at Johhny "Red" Floyd Stadium.
Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster said his team is looking forward to opening the 2010 season against Middle Tennessee.
"I think it's so exciting for our players to open up against a championship football team on Thursday night against Middle Tennessee State on the road," Brewster said. "I'll tell you this: that first game down there at Middle Tennessee State is going to be a heck of a football game. I've looked at them very closely already, and they've got a lot of very talented football players."
The Gophers' contest with MTSU will be their 13th against a Sun Belt Conference team. Minnesota is 11-1 all-time against teams from the Sun Belt.
Minnesota will follow the opener at Middle Tennessee with four straight home games -- Sept. 11 vs. South Dakota, Sept. 18 vs. USC, Sept. 25 vs. Northern Illinois and Oct. 2 vs. Northwestern.
