Minnesota Delivers 6-1 Win Over Michigan State

Minnesota pushed its Big Ten record to 2-0 with a 6-1 win over Michigan State on Friday at the Baseline Tennis Center.
The Gophers swept all three doubles matches and won five of six singles contests to improve to 9-6 overall. Michigan State fell to 6-9 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Tijana Koprivica and Jackie Sperling posted an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles before Alessandra Ferrazzi and Alexa Palen clinched the doubles point with a 9-7 win at No. 1. Doron Muravnik and Mariana Spilca added an 8-7 win at No. 3.
Magdalena Wiecha cruised to a win at No. 6 singles, routing Christine Milliken 6-1, 6-0. Ferrazzi defeated Michaela Silesova 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 for a 3-0 Minnesota lead before the Spartans got their lone victory from Amy Barton, who beat Muravnik 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4.
The Gophers clinched the match when Koprivica defeated Nicole Herzog 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2. Palen followed with a 6-4, 2-6, (10-8) win over Whitney Wilson and Sperling downed Elena Ivanova 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.
Minnesota will host sixth-ranked Michigan on Sunday at noon at the Baseline Tennis Center.
