Softball Heads to Georgia Bulldog Invite

The Gophers are set for another trip south this weekend, but after two weekends in Florida, they now head to Athens, Ga. for the 2010 Georgia Bulldog Invitational. The Gophers are one of five teams to converge on UGA Softball Stadium Mar. 5-7 for the three-day tourney. In addition to Minnesota and host Georgia, other teams include Belmont, Elon and Middle Tennessee State. Prior to the Bulldog Invite, the Gophers will play one game against Kennesaw State on Mar. 4 in Kennesaw, Ga.
The Records
After a 3-2 mark last weekend the Gophers sit at 7-9 heading into the fourth weekend of the season. First opponent Kennesaw State is 7-4, while Middle Tennessee is 2-3 after one weekend of action. Georgia has the best record of the field at 13-1 while Elon is on pace at 8-1. Finally Belmont is on the other end of the spectrum at 1-9.
The Series
The Gophers will meet some unfamiliar competition this weekend, playing Kennesaw State, Middle Tennessee State and Belmont for the first time in program history. Against Georgia and Elon, the Gophers have playing just two total games, sitting at 1-0 versus each.
Last Match-up
In their one match-up with Elon, Minnesota erupted for 10 runs in a 10-0 win on Feb. 19, 2000. In the lone match-up with Georgia, the results were similar, as the Gophers won 9-0 on Feb. 22, 1998.

Last Time Out
Last weekend at the Florida Gulf Coast Spring Break Invite, the Gophers went 3-2 in their five games. They opened with back-to-back wins and won three of their first four beating Florida Gulf Coast 3-2, Connecticut 6-0 and Eastern Michigan 4-0, while falling 3-0 to Georgia Southern. In their final game, Connecticut evened the score with a 1-0 win in eight innings.
Next Up
Next weekend the Gophers make their final Southern Trip of the season, this time to the southwest for the Arizona Wildcat Invitational. In Tucson, Ariz., the Wildcat Invite includes two games on Mar. 12, two on Mar. 13 and one on Mar. 14.
