Westbrook Named Big Ten Honorable Mention

Minnesota senior guard Lawrence Westbrook was named All-Big Ten honorable mention by Big Ten coaches and the media today as the Big Ten Conference released the 2009-10 All-Big Ten men's basketball team. This marks the second-straight season that Westbrook received honorable mention honors.
Also, Gophers' junior forward Paul Carter was recognized by the conference as Minnesota's Sportsmanship honoree.
Ohio State guard Evan Turner was named the conference's player of the year by Big Ten coaches as well as by the media. Joining Turner on the All-Big Ten first-team (coaches and media) were Purdue's Robbie Hummel and E'Twaun Moore, Illinois' junior Demetri McCamey and Michigan State's Kalin Lucas. Lucas was the conference's player of the year in 2009.
Chris Kramer of Purdue nabbed the Defensive Player of the Year award while Illinois' D.J. Richardson received Freshman of the Year honors from the coaches while Northwestern's Drew Crawford was chosen by the media as the top freshman.
Matt Painter of Purdue was named the Big Ten Coach of the Year by the coaches, while Ohio State's Thad Matta took home the award as voted by the media.
The sixth-seeded Gophers take on Penn State, the 11th seed, in the opening round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday, March 11 in Indianapolis. The game, which will be aired nationally on the Big Ten Network, is slated for a 6:30 p.m. (Central) tip, with the winner advancing to play third-seeded Michigan State on Friday, March 12. That game is scheduled to tip at approximately 8:00 p.m.
