Gophers Defeat Hamline 10-3

The Minnesota baseball team (12-17) won its third straight game as it defeated Hamline (6-15) 10-3 at the Metrodome on Tuesday, Apr. 6.
Minnesota had 11 different players reach base and nine players collect hits on the night. Redshirt freshman Troy Larson (Maplewood, Minn.) was the only Gopher with multiple hits, going 2-for-4 with a double, a triple, two runs and two RBI. Redshirt freshman Ethan Liederman (New York, N.Y.) also was 1-for-2 with a run and two RBI, while Ryan Abrahamson (Oakdale, Minn.) was 1-for-2 with two runs and an RBI.
Nick O'Shea (Blaine, Minn.) went 1-for-3 with a home run, two runs and an RBI, while AJ Pettersen (Minnetonka, Minn.) also knocked in two runs in a pinch-hit appearance.
Kevin Kray (Maple Grove, Minn.) started and was on a pitch-count, as he went three innings, gave up two hits, one earned run, walked four and struck out a batter. Kray picked up the win to move to 1-0. Scott Fern (Eau Claire, Wis.) gave up three hits, one run, walked one and struck out two in 2.2 innings of relief.
Luke Rasmussen (Northfield, Minn.) and Cullen Sexton (Plover, Wis.) each pitched 1.1 shutout innings, while Billy Soule (Hamel, Minn.) retired the final two batters of the game.
Minnesota got on board with a single run in the bottom of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead. With one out, Andy Henkemeyer (Sauk Rapids, Minn.) tripled and scored on an RBI ground out by Michael Kvasnicka (Lakeville, Minn.).
The Golden Gophers erupted for six runs in the bottom of the second to push their lead to 7-0. Minnesota loaded the bases when Matt Puhl (North St. Paul, Minn.) drew a leadoff walk, O'Shea was hit by a pitch and Kyle Geason (Eden Prairie, Minn.) singled. Abrahamson was hit by a pitch to make it 2-0. Liederman followed with a two-run single to right field to push the lead to 4-0. Larson followed with a two-run triple to make it 6-0, and Henkemeyer finished the scoring with a sacrifice fly to make it 7-0.
Hamline picked up two runs in the top of the third to make 7-2 highlighted by an RBI ground out by Dan Ellefson. The Pipers added a single run in the top of the fourth on a solo home run by Jacob Dahl to make it 7-3.
The Golden Gophers pushed the score to the final tally of 10-3 with three runs in the bottom of the sixth. O'Shea started the scoring with his third home run of the year to make it 8-3. Pettersen came in as a pinch-hitter to plate Larson and Abrahamson to finish the scoring on the night.
Hamline reliever Kent Huls took the loss, as he gave up three hits and six runs in one inning to fall to 0-1.
The Pipers were led by Dahl who was 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI, while Rogers was 1-for-4 with a run and a stolen base. J.D. Modrynski was also 2-for-4 on the night.
Minnesota will face the Spartans on Friday, Apr. 9 at 6:35 p.m., on Saturday, Apr. 10 at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday, Apr. 11 at 1:05 p.m. All four games can be heard live in the Gold Zone.
