5-year-old Kendall King was born with a heart defect, which has led to numerous surgeries, medical procedures and -- of course -- medical bills. In response to all the past and future costs that Kendall will incur, a benefit called "Kilometers for Kendall" was scheduled for May 18.
"Kilometers for Kendall" was held on Tuesday, May 18 at Minnewashta Elementary in Excelsior. There was a 5K fun run, live band, food from Maynards and a silent auction. There were also some Golden Gophers who were there to help out and help raise money.
Senior offensive lineman Dom Alford, sophomore linebacker Mike Rallis, junior running back Duane Bennett, senior offensive lineman Jeff Wills, Director of Football Operations Dan O'Brien, Offensive Quality Control coach Tony Sorrentino, defensive graduate assistant Jesse Nelson and Cathy Brewster were all on hand to help out. Kendall is Nelson's cousin.
"It meant a great deal to me that the guys from the team and Mrs. Brewster were willing to come help us raise money for Kendall," Nelson said.
"Kilometers for Kendall" raised more than $33,000. For more information on Kendall, click here to visit her Caring Bridge site.
