Westbrook, Johnson Work out for Wolves

Former Minnesota basketball players Lawrence Westbrook and Damian Johnson were at Target Center on Friday morning to work out for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Timberwolves coach Kurt Rambis was on hand to watch the pair of former Gophers, along with a handful of other NBA hopefuls, as they ran through situational drills and a brief half-court scrimmage.
Johnson previously worked out for the Timberwolves on Wednesday and was back at Target Center for the second time this week. A Thibodaux, La. Native, Johnson played in 127 games in Maroon & Gold and finished his career second on the Gophers' all-time steals list with 195 and third on the Gophers' all-time blocks list with 191 career swats. His 64 steals as a senior this past season ties him for fifth place on the Gophers' single-season list. He came in to the season with the 11th and 12 place spots on the steals list with 59 steals and 58 steals, respectively, in his sophomore and junior seasons. He rejected 6o shots as a junior, ninth-most in program history, and followed that up with 67 blocks as a senior, seventh all-time.
The Gophers played in three-straight post-seasons in Johnson's final three seasons. He finished his career with averages of 7.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 blocks, 1.5 steals and 21.6 minutes per game.
Johnson has already worked out for the Miami Heat this month and will work out again for the Wolves on June 18 and will be joined by his college teammate Lawrence Westbrook. The 2010 NBA Draft is scheduled for June 24 in New York City.
Friday's workout was the first of several for Westbrook, who plans on working out for several teams in the near future.
A native of Chandler, Ariz., Westbrook developed into a talented guard during his time at Minnesota while his name can be found all over the Gophers record book. Westbrook is the team's all-time scoring leader in the Big Ten Tournament with 97 points in 10 games. He also ranks in Minnesota's top-ten for career free throw percentage (3rd/.807) and three-point shooting percentage (8th/.379). In four years with the program, Westbrook tallied 1,199 career points (tied for 20th in Minnesota history) and appeared in 121 games (ninth in program history).
