University of Minnesota student-athletes capped off a banner year, placing 126 individuals on Spring 2010 Academic All-Big Ten Teams. The total is the second most in the league, behind only Ohio State's 186.

Minnesota, which ranked fifth in the most recent Division I Learfield Directors' Cup standings released April 29th, competes in nine spring sports - baseball, men's and women's golf, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's track & field, softball and rowing. Men's and women's ice hockey are also included in the Spring Academic All-Big Ten listings as at-large sports.

To be eligible for Academic All-Big Ten selection, student-athletes must be letterwinners in at least their second academic year at their institution and carry a career grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better.

Minnesota's track & field teams totaled 54 total honorees, with the Big Ten Champion men's squad accounting for 23 honorees and the women's program boasting 31.

Other notable academic performances on the men's side were turned in by the recently crowned Big Ten Champion baseball team, which placed 14 student-athletes on the Academic All-Big Ten team, the hockey team, which had nine honorees, and the tennis team, which saw 70 percent (7 of 10) of its student-athletes earn Academic All-Big Ten honors.

On the women's side, the rowing program and Frozen Four participant hockey team both reached double figures with 12 and 10 honorees, respectively.

The Big Ten Spring Academic All-Big Ten Conference Team recognized the athletic and academic excellence of 1,037 spring and at-large sports student-athletes.

The list of honored student-athletes features 79 baseball players, 71 softball players, 117 women's rowers, 40 women's and 54 men's golfers, 55 women's and 50 men's tennis standouts, 191 women's and 145 men's track and field athletes and 134 women's (representing water polo, ice hockey, fencing, synchronized swimming, lightweight rowing, lacrosse, pistol and rifle) and 101 men's (representing ice hockey, volleyball, lacrosse, fencing, rowing, pistol and rifle) at-large athletes.
