Paul Rovnak Added to Communications Staff

Paul Rovnak has been selected to join the Minnesota Athletic Communications office as an assistant director of athletic communications, director of athletic communications Garry Bowman announced today.
Rovnak comes to Minnesota from the Washington Capitals of the NHL, where he served as assistant director of media relations since 2007. He will serve as the Gophers' primary media contact for men's hockey, men's tennis and women's tennis beginning Tuesday, July 6.
"I am thrilled to be joining the athletic communications department at the University of Minnesota," said Rovnak. "I consider this to be the premier job in college hockey and look forward to working with the student athletes and coach Don Lucia. I am also excited to interact with the media and passionate fans that cover and follow Gopher hockey. Minnesota is a program rich in tradition and it is an honor to be a part of it."
A native of Gahanna, Ohio, Rovnak received a bachelor's degree in journalism from Ohio State in 2001. He wrote for the school newspaper and worked for the athletics communications department while in college and upon graduation he served as a summer communications intern for the American Junior Golf Association in 2002. From there, he was employed with the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) from 2002-2006 as a senior media relations coordinator. While with the LPGA, Rovnak worked with the most recognizable female athletes in the world and traveled the globe running the tour's media operations.
Since January 2007, Rovnak has worked in the media relations department for the Capitals, which has been recognized as the best in the Eastern Conference by the Professional Hockey Writers' Association for the last four seasons. Rovnak was the No. 2 contact with Washington's public relations staff and worked closely with the players, coaching staff, front office and local, national and international media.
