Branagh Continues Strong Play in AVP

Nicole Branagh and Misty May-Treanor won their second tournament of the summer, as they defeated Annett Davis and Jenny Johnson Jordan in two sets by scores of 22-20, 21-16 in the championship match of the Long Beach Open on Sunday, July 25.

Branagh and May are teaming together for the first time this summer, and have played in all seven events in the AVP Tour this year. The duo currently leads the AVP in points (4,310) and money earned, although the duo of Jennifer Kessy and April Ross have played in one less tournament this summer.

In the seven tournaments, Branagh and May-Treanor have finished fifth-place or better. The duo won the Fort Lauderdale Open in their first event of the summer on Apr. 16-18. They finished second in both the Huntington Beach Open (June 3-6) and the Virginia Beach Open (June 18-20). Branagh and May Treanor were also third in the Santa Barbara Open (Apr. 29-May 2) and the Belmar Open (June 25-27). they also finished fifth in the Hermosa Beach Open (July 16-18).

Branagh was named the AVP's Best Offensive Player 2009, teamed with Elaine Youngs to win the Crocs Cup Championship in 2009, was the AVP Most Improved Player 2006 and 2008, was the AVP Most Valuable Player 2009 and claimed AVP Team of the Year honors with Elaine Youngs in 2009.
