University of Minnesota head women's basketball coach Pam Borton will participate in the 2010 Federated Challenge for Kids of Minnesota. The golf event, set to take place Monday, August 16 at Interlachen Country Club in Edina , culminates the two-day event which principally raises money to support the Big Brother Big Sisters organization of Minnesota. The Federated Challenge kicks off with a formal Dinner and Auction at the St. Paul RiverCentre on Sunday evening, August 15.

Since its inception in 2005, the Federated Challenge has raised several million dollars for the Kids of Minnesota. It is one of the state's largest and most-efficient charities -- with nearly 100 percent of the funds raised going to help deserving young people have a better chance in life. The 2009 Federated Challenge raised more than $3 million for Kids of Minnesota. The annual event is supported and attended by many of Minnesota's and our nation's most respected corporate and private citizens.

The Federated Challenge, hosted by Owatonna-based Federated Insurance Companies, was inspired by Federated's Chairman Al Annexstad and his wife, Cathy. The main beneficiary, Big Brothers Big Sisters, is our nation's oldest and largest youth mentoring organization, providing one-to-one mentoring relationships between disadvantaged children and caring adults.

Participants in the Federated Challenge not only raise money to support a great cause, but have the opportunity to play golf on one of Minnesota's most revered courses. Since its founding in 1909, Edina's Interlachen Country Club has played host to some of our nation's most prestigious professional and amateur tournaments, and it is considered one of the world's foremost golf and social venues.
