The University of Minnesota's Athletic Ticket Office has announced that season ticket packages for head coach Pam Borton's women's basketball program will go on sale beginning Thursday, Sept. 2. Additionally, package deals for the inaugural Best Buy Classic (Nov. 13-14) and "Get to Know Her" packages will be on sale beginning Thursday, August 26, at the Minnesota State Fair. Single game tickets to see the Golden Gophers play at Williams Arena will go on sale starting Thursday, Sept. 30.
Minnesota has won 20 or more games in six of the past nine seasons, and has advanced to postseason play seven of the last eight years. The Golden Gophers have an attractive non-conference schedule this year that includes nine of 13 games at Williams Arena before the start of Big Ten play. For the first time in the program's history, Minnesota will serve as host to two in-season tournaments, with the previously-mentioned Best Buy Classic joining the Subway Classic (Nov. 20-21). The Gophers also have home games versus Pittsburgh in the Big Ten/BCS Challenge (Nov. 17), as well as Virginia Tech in the fifth annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge (Dec. 2).
On the court, the Gophers will continue to employ an exciting brand of basketball, led by the return of 5-11 junior guard Kiara Buford, an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention selection in 2009-10, as well as 6-1 junior forward Jackie Voigt and senior guard China Antoine. Buford was the team's leading scorer last year, averaging 13.1 points to go along with 4.3 rebounds per game, while Voigt added 8.2 ppg and is the team's top returning rebounder after pulling down 5.0 boards per contest as a sophomore. Antoine is the Gophers' speedy point guard who scored 8.1 ppg, while making 48-of-116 (.414) three-point attempts and coming up with 47 steals in 27 games.
The Gophers have two exhibition games scheduled -- versus Southwest Minnesota State on Wednesday, Nov. 3, and versus UM Crookston on Sunday, Nov. 7. Times have yet to be announced for the Gophers' 2010-11 schedule.
