Join the Gophers at the State Fair Sept. 1

Head coach Pam Borton and members of the University of Minnesota women's basketball team will join the throngs headed for the "Great Minnesota Get Together" when the team makes its annual appearance at the Minnesota State Fair on Wednesday, Sept. 1, and they invite their fans to join them for a fun day.
The Golden Gophers will appear on stage at the U of M Building on Don Patch Avenue from 11:00 to 11:30 a.m., with Dick Jonckowski serving as the emcee during a fun and interactive question and answer session with the public. The Gophers will then get something to eat for lunch, followed by some media booth appearances, and a few hours spent enjoying the State Fair experience.
Until that time, fans of the Golden Gophers have the opportunity to choose what Pam Borton will eat for lunch that day. Last year, a poll prior to the State Fair resulted in Borton sampling an item from the Spam booth, which she enjoyed by the way. This year, there are eight items that fans can select from, with most of them requiring a fairly adventurous eater. Luckily, Coach Borton is a good sport, and not afraid to try something a little different.
To vote in the poll, fans need to have an existing Facebook account and visit the Golden Gopher Women's Basketball page on that site. The easiest way to get to the team's Facebook page is to click the link at the top of any page at GopherSports.com. Once there, if you haven't already done so, just click the "Like" button at the top of the team's Facebook page, and you'll be able to vote in the poll or comment on other items posted there. We'll post some fun video or pictures of Coach Borton's fan-selected lunch that day.
In addition to the team's appearance on Sept. 1, selected players will appear at the Fast Break Club's booth on Sunday, August 29, and Sunday, Sept. 5. The Fast Break Club is the official booster club of Minnesota women's basketball.
The FBC Booth Schedule is as follows:
Sunday, August 29
12:00 to 2:00 -- Brianna and Nicole Mastey
2:00 to 4:00 -- Jackie Voigt and Katie Loberg
Sunday, Sept. 5
12:00 to 2:00 -- Amber Dvorak and Kiara Buford
2:00 to 4:00 -- Leah Cotton
The Minnesota State Fair begins Thursday, August 26, and runs through Labor Day, Sept. 6.
