With Minnesota's season opener against Middle Tennessee State just over a week away, the Golden Gophers preseason camp has begun winding down. Although, even with the end of camp in sight, the Gophers' high tempo in practice hasn't dropped an inch.

Head coach Tim Brewster put Minnesota through its final day of two-a-days on Monday with just two official days of preseason camp left before the team begins its game-week preparations for the opener against the Blue Raiders. And one of the best things working in the Gophers favor as they get ready? The intense heat the Twin Cities have endured throughout the month of August.

"We appreciate the heat. Obviously, it's going to be very warm in Murfreesboro, Tennessee the night of Sept. 2," Brewster said. "We're really fortunate that we've had the heat that we've had in the state of Minnesota."

After Monday's afternoon practice, the fourth-year coach talked about looking forward to seeing his team hit somebody else for a change.

"It's unfortunate that we go the whole spring and 29 practices in the fall without getting the opportunity to go against somebody else. That causes some sparks to fly...but I think it says a lot about the readiness of our football team."

Senior quarterback Adam Weber reiterated his coach's words - adding that the entire team is focuses on that Sept. 2 date with Middle Tennessee State.

"I know I can speak for everyone, coaches are in the same boat too, we're all kind of excited that we can get things going now," Weber said. "After a while, you get tired of hitting each other. I think we're all excited to get out there and start preparing."
