Women's Football Clinic Gives Fans New Insight

For the fourth consecutive year, the University of Minnesota football team took some time before the start of its season to show the community how highly it values the support given by local women as they hosted the 2010 Gopher Nation Women's Football Clinic at TCF Bank Stadium.
On a breezy Friday evening, nearly 400 women of all ages got a rare chance to get up close and personal with the Gopher football program.
Fans were given the opportunity to tour the spacious home locker room at The Bank, then got to take part in on-field activities with Gopher players. The field exercises offered chances for tutored passing and field-goal kicking drills, as well as various other exercises. Minnesota head coach Tim Brewster was also on the field taking pictures and signing autographs.
Several Gopher assistant coaches each took turns giving presentations, using women from the crowd, which showed insight into their various specialties. Co-offensive coordinator Jeff Horton showed where each position should line up in different formations. Co-defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove taught the women lined up on defense how to get at the quarterback. Special teams coordinator John Butler ran through what it takes to have a successful punt. The evening wrapped up with Brewster and his wife, Cathy, along with the assistant coaches and their wives talking about the importance of family, and how much the support of local women means to the success of the Gophers' football program.
While the Minnesota football team showed its appreciation for local women's support by helping them hone their football skills and knowledge, many of the women who participated took advantage of the opportunity to show their excitement for the team, as well as to offer encouragement for the season ahead.
