The University of Minnesota's 1960 National Championship and Rose Bowl football team will be honored as part of Saturday's game with USC. The Gophers will celebrate the 50th anniversary of that championship team with numerous events over the course of Friday and Saturday.
Players from the 1960 team will gather Friday night for a dinner and reception at TCF Bank Stadium, before being honored publicly during Saturday's festivities.
The players, expected to number more than 40, will be available to fans for autographs underneath the scoreboard inside the stadium on the plaza. The former players will be available for autographs from 1-1:45 p.m. and will be signing commemorative posters.
Members of the 1960 team in attendance will be wearing a 1960 replica jersey. They will be honored on the field at halftime, as well as have several tributes to them appearing on the video board throughout the contest.
The first 5,000 fans in attendance will receive a commemorative button (right). The button is the second in a series of seven to be given away at each home game this season.
In addition, the Minnesota Marching Band will add their personal touch to the celebration by re-creating the Rose Bowl halftime show performed by the 1960 band.
Kickoff for Saturday's game is set for 2:35 p.m. CT.
