Erickson, Kessel and Schleper Named to U.S. Roster

USA Hockey announced today that three current University of Minnesota women’s hockey players have been named to the United States Four Nation’s Cup roster. Sarah Erickson, Amanda Kessel and Anne Schleper will represent their country when they play with Team USA, Nov. 9-13 in St. John’s N.L. In all, 22 players were selected to the Four Nation’s Cup roster. The University of Minnesota, Wisconsin and Boston College lead the group each with three current student-athletes.
Erickson played in all 40 games last year for the Gophers and scored 18 goals and 22 assists for 40 points. As a sophomore last season, Erickson improved her point production by 17 points from her rookie campaign and had 10 multiple-point games. She ranked second on the team in goals and assists and fifth in the league in point scoring (33). A member of the Gopher power play unit, Erickson ranked third on the team in power-play points with 15 of her 40 points with the extra attacker. She was named to the U.S. Under-22 Team earlier this year and is also a former member of the U.S. Under-18 Team that won a championship. It is Erickson’s first time at the Four Nation’s Cup.
Kessel has yet to start her Gopher career, coming in as a freshman this season. Like Erickson, Kessel was on the U.S. Under-22 Team this past August and played in the tournament. Also a past member of the U.S. Under-18 Team in 2009, Kessel was named the tournament’s most valuable forward when she scored six goals and 13 assists for 19 points to lead Team USA to a gold medal. In the 2008 World Championships, she played in five games with Team USA and tallied 11 points, ranking third among all players in scoring. Playing her high school career at Shattuck St. Mary’s, Kessel tallied 122 points in her final season. The 2010 Four Nation’s Cup marks Kessel’s debut at the tournament.
Schleper is making her second appearance at the Four Nation’s Cup when she made her first appearance in 2008. Also a member of the U.S. Under-22 Team, she is a past member of the U.S. Under-18 Team. Schleper is coming off an outstanding sophomore campaign with the Gophers. Named a first-team All-American, she was also the WCHA Defensive Player of the Year. She played in all 40 games for the Gophers and was named a first-team All-WCHA selection. A Patty Kazmaier nominee for the Gophers, Schleper scored 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points, ranking fourth on the team and first among defensemen. She ranked sixth nationally in points by a defensemen and first within the WCHA.
Erickson, Kessel and Schleper and the rest of Team USA will start competition against Canada on Tuesday, Nov. 9th.
