Gophers in the Pros: Week Two

Three former Gophers were in the starting lineup in NFL games this weekend. Three others saw playing time on their respective teams in week two of the NFL. For the second week in a row, more teams that feature a former Gopher found themselves in the win column as they went 4-2 on the week.

  • White, Stylez G. - DE - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
    The Tampa Bay defensive end kept pressure on the Carolina Panthers' quarterbacks all game long as he finished the day with five tackles, including four solo tackles and a sack. The Buccaneers took down the Panthers 20-7.
  • Barber III, Marion - RB - Dallas Cowboys
    For the second week in a row, Barber led the Cowboys in rushing with 31 yards on 11 carries against the Chicago Bears. The Cowboys fell to Bears 27-20.
  • Hamilton, Ben - G - Seattle Seahawks
    Hamilton got the start at left guard as the Seahawks fell to Broncos 31-14.
  • Spaeth, Matt - TE - Pittsburgh Steelers
    Spaeth played against the Tennessee Titans, but did not record any statistics. The Steelers beat the Titans 19-11.
  • Decker, Eric - WR - Denver Broncos
    The Broncos rookie played but did not acquire any statistics in the Broncos' 31-14 over the Seahawks.
  • Barber, Dominique - S - Houston Texans
    Barber played but did not record any statistics against the Washington Redskins. The Texans won the match-up 30-27 in overtime.
  • Laurence Maroney - RB - Denver Broncos
    Maroney was inactive in his first week since being traded to the Broncos from the New England Patriots.

A pair of former Gophers also made an impact for their respective teams in week 12 of the Canadian Football League.

  • Bruce III, Arland - WR - Hamilton Tiger-Cats
    Bruce had three receptions for 42 yards and a touchdown to help propel Hamilton over British Columbia 35-31.
  • Middlebrooks, Willie - DB - Toronto Argonauts
    Middlebrooks had one tackle against as Toronto beat Winnipeg 17-13.

In addition to those who were on active rosters, three former Gophers spent last weekend on the practice squad for their respective NFL teams. Marcus Sherels and Logan Payne are on the practice squad for the Minnesota Vikings, and Traye Simmons is with the San Diego Chargers' practice squad. Meanwhile, Mark Setterstrom remains on the physically unable to perform list of the St. Louis Rams.
