Inclement weather on Saturday forced the tournament to be moved indoors to the Black Hawk Tennis Club. Because of the move, the consolation draws on the doubles side were not completed.
Forsyth had the best tournament for Minnesota. She competed in the Silver flight and advanced to the final after winning her first three matches in straight sets. The senior, who was 2-2 in singles at the Drake event, played valiantly in the final before succumbing to Missouri's Maria Christensen 6-4, 7-6.
Kantar finished the event with a 3-1 singles record, while Spilca and Renault both finished with 1-1 records.
Forsyth and Kantar were 0-1 in doubles, but their defeat came to Manca Krizman and Jessica Aguilera of Drake who captured the Gold flight doubles crown. Spilca and Renault were 0-2 in doubles.
Four additional members of the team are still competing in the Cal Nike Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. The event concludes later tonight at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts. The four Gophers in California are senior Alessandra Ferrazzi, junior Magdalena Wiecha, sophomore Alexa Palen and freshman Natallia Pintusava.
Through the first two days of competition, Wiecha was 3-0 in singles and advanced to her flight semifinals where she is playing No. 1 seed Deborah Armstrong from Long Beach State today.
GopherSports.com will update the results from the Cal Nike Invitational as they become available.
The women's tennis team returns to action Oct. 8-10 at the Wildcat Invitation in Evanston, Ill.
