The women's tennis team completed play at the Cal Nike Invitational on Sunday in Berkeley, Calif. The event was held at the Hellman Tennis Complex and Channing Tennis Courts. The four Gophers who competed in California were senior Alessandra Ferrazzi, junior Magdalena Wiecha, sophomore Alexa Palen and freshman Natallia Pintusava.

Wiecha turned in the best performance for the Gophers as she advanced to her flight semifinals after winning her first three matches. She fell 6-2, 7-6 (2) to No. 1 seed Deborah Armstrong of Long Beach State in the semifinals.

Wiecha and partner Pintusava also played well in doubles. The duo lost their first round match to the No. 4 seed on Friday, but rebounded to win their next two matches and advance to their consolation flight final against Arizona's Deborah Casey and Sarah Landsman. The Arizona duo prevailed 8-6 in the final on Sunday.

Ferrazzi was the only other Gopher to compete on Sunday. The All-Big Ten selection and team MVP last season won her lone match of the day 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (5) against Klaud Malenovska of Long Beach State.

The women's tennis team returns to action Oct. 8-10 at the Wildcat Invitation in Evanston, Ill.
