The University of Minnesota football team began the season on the road at Middle Tennessee State, but there was still football in the air at TCF Bank Stadium on Thursday night.

Despite heavy rain falling just before kickoff, over 500 fans toughed through the weather and made their way down to The Bank to show their support as they intently watched the game on the scoreboard as the Gophers took down the Blue Raiders 24-17.

Fans remained vocal through the game, with cheers pouring out each time the Gophers made a solid play. A high level of excitement was obvious for Minnesota football as the game field was filled with fans sporting maroon and gold.

For the fans, the ability to be down on the field not only allowed them take in the game at the same place the Gophers play, but it also allowed them to create a family-friendly atmosphere with numerous games of catch that helped encourage the enthusiasm towards Minnesota football for the younger fans.

Besides showing the game, the event staff that The Bank also put together an obstacle course and a basketball free-throw shooting booth, as well as held trivia questions for fans to win home football game tickets to further the stadium atmosphere.

Morale was very high for everyone leaving the stadium as they enjoyed the knowledge that the Gophers begin the season with a perfect 1-0 record.
