Granquist Named Defensive Player of the Week

Junior libero Jessica Granquist was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week according to an announcement by the Big Ten on Monday, Sept. 6.
Granquist averaged 6.25 dps and received 78 serves perfectly in a week where the Golden Gophers went 2-1 and won the Diet Coke Classic. She finished with 14 digs and three assists in a four-set victory over Baylor. Granquist followed that performance with a career-best 33 digs in a five-set loss to No. 22 Northern Iowa. In the final match of the tournament, she recorded 28 digs in only three sets against No. 20 Dayton.
Entering the week, Granquist is fifth in the Big Ten digs with 4.19 dps. She has also received 118 of 120 serves perfectly this year, and helped limit the Gopher opposition to a .139 hitting percentage.
Minnesota will head to the Duke Invitational on Sept. 10. The Golden Gophers will face North Carolina Central on Friday, Sept. 10 at 4 p.m. (CT). Minnesota will then face Delaware on Saturday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m. (CT) and Duke at 6 p.m. (CT). All three matches can be heard in the Gold Zone.
