Ferrazzi Wins Campus Match Play Event

University of Minnesota senior Alessandra Ferrazzi captured the individual title at the Campus Match Play at Baseline Tennis Center on Jan. 15. The one-day event featured 16 players and was held in conjunction with the United States Tennis Association and Intercollegiate Tennis Association program. It was sponsored by the Minnesota women's tennis team.

Ferrazzi, who was named to the All-Big Ten Team last year, defeated Minnesota freshman Natallia Pintusava 6-3 in the final. Ferrazzi also beat teammates Peta Forsyth (6-2 in the quarterfinals) and Alexa Palen (6-5 in the semifinals) en route to the title.

Senior Mariana Spilca and sophomore Doron Muravnik teamed up to defeat Minnesota assistant coach Daria Panova and volunteer assistant coach Imke Reimers 6-5 in the doubles championship.

The Gophers open their season this weekend when they play Marshall on Friday and Kentucky on Saturday. Both matches will be held in Huntington, W. Va. Minnesota's first home match of the season is at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 11 against Oklahoma.
