The Minnesota track & field teams will play host to their biggest indoor meet of the 2010 season this weekend (Friday-Saturday, Jan. 21-22) when the Jack Johnson Classic is contested in the University Fieldhouse. The Classic field includes South Florida, Iowa and Northern Iowa, as well as a number of other teams from around the Midwest.
One of the unique aspects of the Jack Johnson Classic is the chance for multi-event athletes to compete in the pentathlon (women) and the heptathlon (men). The pentathlon will be contested on Friday, while the heptathlon will run the span of two days.
Action gets underway on Friday at 3 p.m. with the long jump and the 60-meter pentathlon hurdles. The first men’s event is the heptathlon 60-meter dash at 3:15 p.m.
The schedule on Friday also includes the men’s long jump and the women’s pole vault, and the 200 meters and 5,000 meters for both the men and the women.
On Saturday, the heptathlon 60-meter high hurdles and the women’s high jump kick off the events at 10 a.m.
