Head coach Pam Borton and the Golden Gopher women's basketball team celebrated the Minnesota Lynx's 2011 WNBA Title at the team's championship parade in downtown Minneapolis Tuesday afternoon.
The entire team and coaching staff were on hand to cheer on Minnesota's first professional sports team champion since 1991 and former Golden Gopher Lindsay Whalen.
"I am just thrilled to bring a championship back to Minnesota," Whalen said in an interview with WNBA.com after her Lynx won the WNBA title. "It was a tough-fought series. Atlanta was unbelievable all series, but we just got the job done."
Members of the team found prime real estate to take in the parade, while also showing off signs they made for the Lynx.
Following the parade, a rally was held for the WNBA champs at the Target Center, which got underway at 12:15 p.m. But, the Gophers were already one their way back to Williams Arena to prepare for their own season.
The parade and the excitement surrounding the hometown champions can only serve as inspiration as the 2011-12 Minnesota women's basketball season gets underway in just over three weeks.
