Minnesota head women's basketball coach Pam Borton has announced dates for the 2012 Minnesota Girls Basketball Summer Camps that will take place on the UofM campus. The variety of camps offers opportunities for players of all age groups and ability levels to improve on their games in a fun, exciting environment while learning from Gopher coaches and players.

The four different camps that Borton will offer include: Elite Camp (June 18-19), Team Camp (June 22-24), Shooting Academy (June 20) and Gopher Day Camp (July 9-12).

• The Elite Camp will be held for players from seventh-12th grade on June 18-19. The two-day camp allows players the opportunity to receive individual instruction on improving their basketball skills. Post players will be taught how to become versatile, while they will also learn the techniques of attacking the basket, ball-handling, passing, posting and scoring in the paint, high post/perimeter skills, rebounding and perimeter and post defensive skills. Guards will work on becoming an aggressive player in all aspects with their shooting and scoring ability, as well as passing skills, moving without the ball, perimeter defense and much more. All campers will learn the importance of communication, leadership and teamwork and will be coached by the Gopher coaches along with some of the best high school and college coaches in the state.

• The Team Camp will welcome high school teams. Lasting from June 22-24, the three-day camp provides a valuable learning experience and competitive atmosphere for each team, while also providing the opportunity to meet and play against other teams in the Midwest. All games are held on the University of Minnesota campus. High school coaches are allowed to coach their own teams and each team must have an adult coach. Each team is guaranteed five games, with at least one to be played at Williams Arena, with each court having a qualified referee assigned to it.

• The Shooting Academy will be held for players from seventh-12th grade on June 20. The one-day camp is designed to improve your shooting technique while being coached by the Gopher coaching staff and players. Players will see demonstrations done by Gopher women's basketball players and learn how to create scoring opportunities to enhance their game. Campers will learn footwork, how to read screens, quickness on release and more, which are all things you need to know to be a more effective player and scorer.

• The Gopher Day Camp will be held for players from third to eighth grade on July 9-12. The four-day camp will teach players the importance of hard work, communication, teamwork, positive attitude and confidence. Through small-group instruction and team-play, campers will be taught fundamental skills such as ball-handling, shooting, passing and defense, while being coached by the Gopher coaches and players. This is a fun camp that teaches life skills along with the fundamentals of basketball.

Once registration opens, players can register online for any of the camps at www.coachborton.com. Questions and/or concerns can be emailed to wbball@umn.edu.
