University of Minnesota head football coach Jerry Kill has announced the signing of David Cobb (Killeen, Texas) to a national letter of intent.

Cobb is rated as a three-star prospect by Rivals.com, Scout.com and ESPN/Scouts Inc. He is 5-11, 205 and is listed as an athlete, with potential to play on either side of the ball.

Cobb played his high school football at Killeen Ellison High School, earning All District 12-5A honors as a running back following this past season. He rushed for more than 1,400 yards and scored 17 touchdowns in 2010. For his career at Ellison, Cobb ran for 2,946 yards and 35 scores.

"David is a great get for us," Coach Kill said. "He's a three-year starter for Killeen Ellison. I know that program and that's hard to do there. He's also a two-year starter as the shooting guard on the basketball team. We really like David's athleticism and his character. He's got good size and thickness to him. Plus, he has good speed. He's a 10.7 guy in the 100. He could help us in a couple different areas."

ESPN/Scouts Inc. ranks Cobb as the No. 60 running back in the 2011 recruiting class, while Scout.com lists him at No. 98.

Cobb joins 23 other Gopher football recruits who have been announced over the last two weeks. The current 2011 Minnesota Recruiting Class is listed on the Gophers' Signing Day Central page.
