Five Gophers Win Titles at Parents' Day Open

Samantha Sonnenberg cleared a season-best height of 13 feet, 11 1/4 inches to win the pole vault to lead five Golden Gopher champions at the Parents’ Day Open at the University Fieldhouse on Saturday. Sonnenberg’s vault is the best in the Big Ten this season.
Minnesota rested most of its top runners in preparation for next weekend’s Big Ten Conference Championships at Purdue.
The Gophers swept the top four places in the 600-meter dash. Senior Jamie Dittmar won the title in a time of 1:35.45 edging Megan Smith (1;35.63), Heather Brunn (1:35.68) and Kathryn Ritter (1:36.48).
Minnesota also went 1-2 in the 1,000-meter run. Redshirt freshman Bre Valle took first in a time of 3:02.23 with Kaitlin Mincke earning runner-up honors in 3:03.45.p
Minnesota picked up two other titles in the field events. Freshman Kim Hovey won the shot put with a throw of 46-11, while senior Natalie Devine capture the high jump with a height of 5-8 1/2.
