Gophers Host Pack, Carleton Match Canceled

The 75th-ranked Minnesota women's tennis team continues a string of six consecutive home matches today when it hosts No. 39 North Carolina State at Baseline Tennis Center. The Gophers were supposed to play in-state opponent Carleton at 4:30 p.m. today, but that match has been canceled because of inclement weather and potential dangerous driving conditions.
North Carolina State, who was off last weekend, is 4-1. The Wolfpack defeated BYU yesterday in a neutral-site match at Baseline Tennis Center 5-1. The teams played six singles matches only, as no doubles matches were played. The Wolfpack are led by Sanaa Bhambri, who is 5-0 this season (4-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 at No. 2 singles) and ranked No. 23 by the ITA. Sandhya Nagaraj is 2-1 this year and is ranked No. 76 in singles, but she has not played a singles match since Jan. 30. Bhambri and Nagaraj combine to form the No. 7 doubles team in the nation and are 3-1 on the season.
The Wolfpack's lone loss came at the hands of No. 15 Southern California, 4-3. North Carolina State has been dominant in its four wins, as three of its victories were 7-0 scores.
The Gophers defeated BYU 6-1 on Friday night. Minnesota won the doubles point and then won matches at No. 1-5 singles for the win.
Carleton, which is an hour drive from Minnesota, is ranked No. 27 in Division III and had gotten off to a 2-0 start with 9-0 and 8-1 wins this season.
After today, Minnesota will have one more set of home matches before hitting the road. After a week off, the Gophers will host Big Ten rival Wisconsin and No. 31 Nebraska to open their March schedule.
