"It's a great privilege for me to be standing on this stage here and visiting with the high school coaches. I started out being a high school coach, and it was the best time of my life," Kill, whose first head coaching position was at Webb City (Mo.) High School, said. "I also want to thank the coaches here in the state of Minnesota, the Minnesota Football Coaches Association, for having such a great event...They've done all the work, and they've done an outstanding job."
It was the first MFCA Clinic for Kill and his staff, all of whom spent time at the three-day event before inviting the group to take in Minnesota's practice at TCF Bank Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Entering his first season at Minnesota, Kill most recently turned around programs at Southern Illinois and Northern Illinois. On Friday night, Kill and his staff outlined their philosophy to try and bring that same success to the Twin Cities using strategies for both players and coaches.
The underlying message throughout the night was that Kill and his staff expect to themselves and their players to work hard. Work hard in practice. Work hard in class. Work hard in the weight room. Work hard in each and everything they do. The goal of that hard work is success on the field every Saturday by means of repetition and mental and physical preparation to an extreme degree.
"We're going to push, we're going to work, and we're going to build from the ground up. I only know one way to do it - I'm not changing," Kill said. "I've been doing it for 28 years, and I'm not giving in. We are going to work hard."
